Monday 9/30/1941 Washington and Chicago (N) to Meet in World Series! After
a thrilling end to the season, both Washington and Chicago fans are anxiously awaiting the
beginning of the series. Odds are favouring Washington, with their strong pitching
staff, but the loss of Leonard certainly does not make is a sure thing. Chicago
writers are predicting a sweep of the Senators stating with a potent offence led by
Williams, how can they be beat?
Monday 9/30/1941 Tobin (WSH) wins Dennis Lamp Outstanding Pitcher Award Awards
may not be the most important thing for Jim Tobin, but Washington's right-hander smiled as
he was named the Boys of Slumber Dennis Lamp Outstanding Pitcher Award winner. In 33
starts this year Jim struck out 35 batters in 280.1 innings of work. His ERA is 1.89, his
record 23-4. He has 27 complete games and 3 shutouts. He's 1st in the Boys of Slumber in
ERA and 2nd in wins!

Monday 9/30/1941 Williams (CHC) wins Karim Garcia MVP Award Chicago (N)'s
centerfielder Ted Williams had a fabulous season, no doubt about it. The Boys of Slumber
shared this opinion and names the 23 year old the Karim Garcia MVP Award winner! His
season numbers are: .440 AVG, 228 hits, 33 doubles, 9 triples and 13 homeruns, along with
104 RBI and 129 runs scored. HE HAS WON THE TRIPLE CROWN!!!

Monday 9/30/1941 Mullin pitched great, wins Danny Darwin ROY Award The 1940 Boys
of Slumber Danny Darwin ROY Award winner is from Cincinnati this season. Pat Mullin put
together impressive numbers for a rookie en route to win the first major award of his
career. Let's hope more will follow for this 23 year old ballplayer. His season features a
batting average of .295 (187 hits in 634 AB), 14 doubles, 18 triples and one longball.
Mullin collected 47 RBI and 106 runs as well.

Sunday 9/29/1941 Lanning (SLB) wins P.O.W. award Johnny Lanning of St. Louis (A)
wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating Boys of Slumber's hitters the entire
week. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.00 while going 2-0. He hurled a
shutout as well.
Sunday 9/22/1941 Red hot Gordon wins Player of the Week award Joe Gordon from
St. Louis (A) wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this
week in the Boys of Slumber. Joe was on fire, hitting .500 with 1 HR and 5 RBI. Gordon has
hit 9 bombs this year while batting .287. He adds 27 doubles, along with 87 runs scored.

Friday 9/20/1941 Marius Russo shuts out St. Louis (N) on one hit CINCINNATI -
St. Louis (N)'s offense is struggling, and Cincinnati's Marius Russo didn't help them. The
southpaw fired his 2nd shutout of the season, a 1-hitter. The bid for a no-hitter was
broken up when Harlond Clift doubled with no outs in the 5th inning. 'I was hitting my
spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.'
Russo (6-15) struck out 3 and walked 2, throwing 60 of 108 pitches for strikes. Jo-jo
Moore helped Russo at the plate, he finished with 1 hit in 1 AB, hitting a double, and
collecting 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 5-0.

Thursday 9/19/1941 Buck Ross out for full season NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s
right-hander Buck Ross will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the
game against Chicago (A) on Friday. Ross was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark,
where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle.
His ERA of 3.72 helped him to a 8-12 record this year. He struck out 28 and walked 73 in
186.1 innings. He has 17 complete games and 2 shutouts.
Tuesday 9/17/1941 Washington's Leonard out for 7 weeks WASHINGTON - Washington's
right-hander Dutch Leonard suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at
least 7 weeks. In the 7th of the game against St. Louis (N) he experienced pain in his
throwing arm and had to leave the game. Leonard was rushed to an hospital near the
ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Spasms Back. In 37
starts this year Dutch struck out 60 batters in 321.2 innings of work. His ERA is 2.21,
his record 20-12. He has 32 complete games and 3 shutouts. He's 3rd in the Boys of Slumber
in ERA and 4th in wins!
Sunday 9/15/1941 Lanier (BRK) wins P.O.W. award Brooklyn's pitcher Max Lanier
had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Boys of Slumber Player of the
Week. Lanier was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.50. Along the way
he struck out 5 in 18 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. Max has a record of 18-6 this
season, with an ERA of 2.32. In 217.2 Innings he was able to strike out 74 batters. He has
22 complete games and 3 shutouts. He's 4th in the Boys of Slumber in ERA and 6th in wins!

Sunday 9/8/1941 Red hot Derringer wins Player of the Week award The Boys of
Slumber's best player of the week was Brooklyn's Paul Derringer, who wins the award for
the 2nd time in his career. Paul went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.00, while fanning 4 in 18
innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well.

Saturday 9/7/1941 Denny Galehouse (NYY) will miss 5-6 weeks NEW YORK (A) - New
York (A)'s right-hander Denny Galehouse suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out
for at least 5-6 weeks. In the 1st of the game against St. Louis (A) he experienced pain
in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Galehouse was rushed to an hospital near
the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained
Tricep Muscle. Opposing players hit .262 against Denny this season. While posting an ERA
of 3.89 he went 13-13 in 34 starts, fanning 42 and walking 107 hitters. Denny has pitched
2 shutouts and 24 complete games.
Saturday 9/7/1941 Lon Warneke pitches his 2nd shutout of the season NEW YORK (N)
- New York (N)'s offense is struggling, and Philadelphia (A)'s Lon Warneke didn't help
them. The right-hander fired his 2nd shutout of the season, a 2-hitter. Warneke (4-9)
fanned 1 and walked 4, throwing 128 pitches. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried
worked. What a day!' Rudy York provided Philadelphia (A) with the offense Warneke needed
as he finished with 2 hits in 4 AB, doubling once, scoring two runs. The final score of
the game was 6-0.

Thursday 9/5/1941 Cincinnati has no chance in a 2-hitter by Buck Ross CINCINNATI
- All you need to win is a dominating pitching performance. And New York (A)'s Buck Ross
did so today, in a 2-hit shutout against Cincinnati. 'They took some ugly cuts at my
breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.'
Ross (7-11) struck out none and walked 1, throwing 67 of 112 pitches for strikes. New York
(A)'s rightfielder Pete Reiser stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, and driving in 2 runs. That was
enough to support the brilliant performance of Ross. New York (A) scored 4 runs on 5 hits.
Monday 9/2/1941 Dick Bartell ropes 2000th career hit NEW YORK (A) - Brooklyn's
players had every reason to congratulate Dick Bartell, who reached a milestone today,
collecting his 2000th career hit! His hit in the 5th inning was a single off Cliff Melton.
Along with his 2000 hits, Dick collected 67 homeruns and 671 RBI in 14 seasons. 'This day
is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent
to play this game.'
